The 100 watt incandescent light bulb is being phased out

Something else to be considering with the news that 100 and 75 watt incandescent light bulbs are being phased out over the next few months and 60 watt light bulbs will be phased out early 2010.

There are a number of things to consider when sourcing light fittings for the new build; The new low energy light bulbs will not work with dimmer switches they also do not fit in all lamps and pendants, they do not cope with freezing temperatures so are not suitable for outside situations.

Another problem is the brightness, certainly my own experience confirms they are not as bright or immediate as a traditional light bulbs. In our children’s rooms the single pendant light bulb’s were fine however we changed them to the new low energy light bulbs and they have struggled with their homework so we have had to add desk lights!

Is that still environmentally friendly?

Dimmable, low-energy bulbs are now available, but as with all these green bulbs they’re expensive.
