The welsh oak guys were back on site just before midday Tuesday following the bank holiday break as they had not booked the crane till Wednesday they spent the rest of the day fixing the panels they could lift by hand but even so things started to take shape. Buy the end of the day most of the external panels and Oak was in place.

The crane was on site yesterday and today lifting some of the huge chamber beams in place.

I have ordered the Tudor roof tiles today, I have looked at others including Keymer which I thought just worked out to expensive and Midland Tile and Slate which I woried about the quality and as I have already had the Tudors on the garages and garden building I stuck with them.

So it is all coming together now but I still have to decide on heating, I know we want underfloor heating but I cant make my mind up between conventional gas with a condensing boiler or a ground source heat pump. My heart says go for the heat pump but the wallet can make the sums work and to cap it all I had a guy out from www.skuddair.com who specialise in Air Source pumps which sit in between both in terms of initial outlay and recoup time.

Ahhgggggggg!!!

We have not had anyone on site the last few days however bricklayers are due to start later this week . I ordered blocks, sand and cement last week and took delivery today – just hope they turn up!

I have a chap from Architectural Bronze Casements coming to see us on Friday, I have been looking at Oak framed windows with Oak sashes but last week we were invited to view Oak frame house that has not long been completed and they had Bronze casements fitted into Oak frames and they looked fantastic. Not only do the bronze casements look great but they are going to need a lot less maintenance than the Oak sashes but they have all the benefits of high end double glazing but, unfortunately at a cost!

Welsh Oak are still planning on a 24th March delivery for the frame, however I still have not had confirmation from the council that the my brick choice has been approved – so 21 day and counting, I hope they get their fingers out.

In the meantime I am getting quotes for the heating, I was going to go real green and have a ground source heat pump but whilst there are some running cost savings the initial outlay is just so high. Still not something I have to worry about right now but I will have to make a decision soon.
